At Ashley Consultants we regularly help clients achieve safeguarding compliance, and this was the case when we were appointed by the Ignis Trust to help improve safety and security at the shared Bedonwell Infants & Nursery and Junior School site.
With challenging arrangements for access, segregation and security in general, the urgency of the project required a single phase of works. To ensure minimal disruption to the school’s daily operation, works were carefully planned utilising holiday periods wherever possible, and managing works during term time with continued liaison between Contractor and Client.
Ashley Consultants conducted a full site survey, preparing a comprehensive technical design, along with Local Authority planning application, specification, and tender. Our specification addressed the relocation of Reception services to the main site entrance, building of a new toilet block following relocation, all internal remodelling, installation of access security, creation of dedicated secure external routes and a new access route directly to the Nursery.
In order to achieve funding Ashley Consultants prepared a CIF Application, successfully securing over £600K to complete the work. Full contract administration and project management were then provided, with Ashley Consultants liaising between all parties including weekly site visits to ensure site safety and efficiency of programme.
This successful project has led to safeguarding being significantly improved with minimal disruption to school services during works. Visitors can now be securely managed at the point of entry to the site, improving both pupil and site safety. The new toilet / washroom facilities also now meet current standards and have been relocated to a more secure and managed area of the school.
All works have considered sustainability and energy savings, ensuring that thermal improvements where possible have been incorporated.
